    How does HPS-G HeatShield work?

    As an introduction, it is best to understand the composition of the solar spectrum: visible light (VL), infrared light (IR), and ultraviolet light (UV). Within 100% of heat, 43% of the heat is from VL, 53% of the heat is from IR, and the remainder is from UV. HPS-G HeatShield uses cutting-edge nanotechnology that allows a large portion of VL transmission, resulting in clear solar control solutions through windows, while blocking over 70% of IR and over 90% of UV by absorbing them on the glass. The IR and UV energy converts into heat on the glass, which is why it always feels warm. This warmth converts the window into a thermal barrier. In the summer, through secondary emission, a portion of heat emits outside and a portion emits inside. Whatever emits outside is the heat that is blocked. In the winter this is reversed.

    How much energy can eTime’s HPS-G Heatshield save?

    We are able to lower the room temperature by up to 3-4°C in the summer, saving between 20-40% in cooling energy. We also save 3-10% in heating energy in winter. HPS-G HeatShield reduces UV by 90%. This helps protect whatever is inside the room (furnishings, artwork, carpet, hardwood floors) from fading, and also protects against skin cancer.

    How is HPS-G HeatShield installed?

    HPS-G HeatShield is professionally installed by our skilled, factory-trained installers, who strictly adhere to industrial standards and work ethics. It is designed to be installed on the interior side of the glass. First, we prepare the window area for application by moving furniture if necessary, and covering the floor, walls, and everything else in the work area. Next, the windows are thoroughly cleaned using eTime’s special cleaning solution and razor blade scrapers. Next, the edges of the windows are taped to prevent leakage, and a trough is constructed on the bottom to collect excess product. Next, HPS-G HeatShield is poured on the window with our specially designed application tools. Next, the coating is cured on the glass using heat lamp. Finally, the tape and trough are removed. We generally perform our installations after working hours.

    How long does it take the coating to dry?

    The coating is touch-dry in 20 minutes, fully cured in 72 hours, and can be cleaned in 30 days. Once fully cured, the effects of HPS-G HeatShield will be felt immediately and the window will be fully restored.

    Can HPS-G HeatShield be applied on the outside?

    No, it can not.

    How long does HPS-G HeatShield last?

    It will last and perform for at least 15 years, according to CSA’s accelerated weathering tests. This is why all applications carry a 15 year warranty.

    What is the warranty for HPS-G HeatShield?

    HPS-G HeatShield is warranted against peeling, bubbling, and discolouring when properly installed on suitable interior surfaces of glass windows by our trained installers. We offer this warranty 15 years from the time of installation. If the coating fails to comply with the warranty, the manufacturer will supply the material to our dealer and the dealer will recoat the window at no charge to customer. Additionally, the manufacturer also warrants against Thermal Shock Failure due to high thermal stress for a period of 60 months with $500 per incident limit.

    Does HPS-G HeatShield cause seal failure when applied to insulated (double-pane) windows?

    No, HPS-HeatShield does not cause seal failure. It has been applied to millions of square feet of glass around the globe and has not been known to cause seal failure. A properly designed and tested insulated glass unit will withstand 22% changes in air pressure. Risk of seal failure is greatly determined by the quality of workmanship and the quality of the materials that go into building the insulated glass units. The best guard against seal failure is to purchase well-made units from reputable window manufacturers that have solid experience and histories with insulated units.

    Will HPS-G HeatShield stop my furnishings from fading?

    Nothing stops fading. HPS-G HeatShield is designed to dramatically reduce the major causes of fading (ultraviolet light, visible light and solar heat), thus prolonging the life of your furnishings perhaps by 3 to 10 times. As a general rule, UV is approximately 40% of the cause, VL contributes about 25%, solar heat is about 25%, and 10% comes from other causes such as humidity, pollutants, dye anchorage, colour fastness, interior lights and chemicals. HPS-G HeatShield reduces over 90% of UV, and blocks up to 70% of solar heat.

    Will HPS-G HeatShield coating affect my plants?

    While screening of UV radiation helps protect carpets, art work, and interior furnishings and fabrics, it has no adverse effects on plant health. This is because the photoreceptors in plants typically absorb visible light wavelengths of 450 nm, 660 nm, and 730 nm. One needs to be chiefly concerned with the amount of visible light blocked. Any window that has a Visible Light Transmission of 29% or greater should present no special problem for most plants.

    How do I clean my windows after they are coated?

    You can clean your windows after 30 days. You will find that since HPS-G HeatShield creates a microscopically smooth surface on the glass, you will not need to clean your windows as often because dirt and dust will have a difficult time adhering to the surface. So, warm soapy water and a soft cloth will be more than enough to clean your coated windows. Abrasive and/or industrial window cleaning products should not be used and will void the warranty, because they will scratch and/or damage the coating.

    Is HPS-G HeatShield Safe?

    HPS-G HeatShield has low levels of VOCs, lead, and mercury – well below government-allowed standards. It is an environmental-friendly water-based coating.

    Does HPS-G HeatShield Smell when being applied?

    No. The only noticeable smell our clients have reported is that of rubbing alcohol, which we use as part of our thorough window-cleaning process.

    How can I become an eTime Energy dealer?

    All dealers have to go through a rigid screening process to ensure they will be successful in the future. They need to have a good understanding of business, good connections with government and building owners, and be financially sound. All dealers need to be trained on installation and sales technique at our training school.

    Does HPS-G HeatShield scratch?

    It will withstand normal wear-and-tear as a regular window would. As long as no hard objects scratch it, the window will be scratch-free for at least 15 years.

    Can HPS-G HeatShield be removed?

    Yes. We can use a special solution to remove it.

    I heard windows will crack after window films are applied. Will HPS-G HeatShield do the same?

    Window glass is not normally perfect. There are always tiny lines on the glass even when it is new. Also, if the glass was installed very tightly inside the window frame, heat will stress the glass, causing the window to crack. eTime Energy has installed HPS-G HeatShield on thousands of windows across North America. Our record of cracking rate is less than 0.3% and we will replace the cracked window to the user within 5 years of installation with $500 per incident limit.
